Q&A with Little House of Science

We spoke to their founder Elisabth Keck

Little House of Science

Q. How did Little House of Science start?

Little House of Science was founded in 2014 in London due to the ever growing demand from children wanting to learn more about how the world works and to offer hands-on experiments for children! We now teach thousands of children each year in all STEM related subjects in schools and venues in London and Buckinghamshire including Imperial College.

Q. What are your main objectives?

We aim to foster the natural curiosity in children and re-enforce the STEM subjects in a fun way, so that children can connect with science from an early age. We take a great interest in the science community, supporting the Royal Society Summer Exhibition Kids section annually and Institute of Physics with whom we run the annual Young Scientist Award. We would like to think of ourselves as nurturing the next generation of young scientists, but the main aim is when children go home after one of our classes, they will do so knowing a little bit more about our wonderful world and how things work.

Q. What are the age ranges of your classes?

Our science classes are for children aged 3-4 years, 4-7 years and 8-12 years.

Q. Do you offer Holiday Clubs?

Yes, we offer week long science clubs during the holidays in London and Buckinghamshire for children aged 4-8 years and 9-12 years. Classes run between 9.30/10am until 3.30/4pm with early drop-offs also available. The holiday camps are completely hands-on and project based throughout each day, and the children will be assisted during all experiments.

Q. What are the key benefits of Little House of Science classes?

All our science classes are full of project based learning, ‘hands-on & brains-on’ and stimulating, and we keep our lessons fresh with new experiments being added all the time and never repeated. All our science teachers are Scientists with enhanced DBS checks and safeguarding training in place. Parents also get involved in what their children are learning by receiving weekly parental notes and summaries.

If you have a keen young scientist at home and want to find out more, details of classes, locations and holiday camps can be found at www.littlehouseofscience.com.
