Finding a pregnancy photographer

Many women like to celebrate their pregnancy with something special, like an album of photographs either charting their changing body, or with one photo session in late pregnancy and one session with their newborn baby.

What is pregnancy photography?

Like pregnancy body painting, pregnancy photography can be a beautiful way to celebrate this remarkable time in your life.

Depending on what you want, a specialist pregnancy photographer can either chart your pregnancy with several sessions, or offer one session late on in your pregnancy, to show off the beauty of your special curves.

Often the photographer is also asked to complete the album with a session featuring the new baby and parents together, to create a wonderful, unique family treasure.

Finding a pregnancy photographer

Because most pregnancy photography is about celebrating your bump, the images are often taken with the subject naked or semi-dressed. However it is of course completely up to the subject and it is possible to pose dressed.

These images have to be done in a way which ensures that the subject feels comfortable. Sessions are often done at the subject’s home but can be done at a studio if preferred. It is worth finding a photographer who specialises in this field, who knows how to work discreetly and how to present the subject in the best way possible.

If you find someone who has advertised locally to you, call them up and see how they sound over the phone. Check out their previous work and if possible, ask for a couple of references. Even if you just want to make one phone call to someone else, you don’t have to intrude on their privacy, just ask how they felt about the process and if they were happy with the results.

These sessions can be quite expensive but they do offer something special. As such, they are a great gift.
