Pyjama Drama

When Caroline Morrow was offered redundancy after 7 years of dedicated office work she realised that her real interest lay in returning to her acting roots, and with two young children she wanted a job that allowed her increasing flexibility around her own family's needs.

So she researched buying into a franchise that offered drama classes to children.  She thought about starting from scratch (thinking of a name, designing class materials, finding venues, designing a website etc), but realised that a lot of time (and mistakes) could be saved by buying into a proven model that would work from the very first class.

"I think I researched over 20 franchises on the interent and asked for their franchise packs.  I then narrowed this down to 4 that I liked best, and asked to meet the owners.  I also rang some of the other franchisees and asked them what it was like, how much support were they given etc.  I had to sign a confidentiality agreement before any discussions took place as they were all quite cagey about their class plans etc - which I can understand.  But after 6 months I finally committed to Pyjama Drama which is a drama class for children aged 6mths-7yrs." says Caroline.

Pyjama Drama was originally founded in 2005 by a secondary school drama teacher in Manchester, Sarah Owen, and joined in 2010 by Kate Moffat who has a background in marketing and PR.  "The drama classes are very professionally put together and I really got on well with the directors.  There was also a 5-day training programme which was really useful.  The Pyjama Drama marketing materials are first class, and everyone has been very impressed with the nursery packs, leaflets and adverts.  And my first class was so popular that Sarah drove over to help me register new families.  That was really supportive".

"I am their first London franchise so my catchment area is really wide, and with the help of a franchise lawyer which I found through www.contactlaw.co.uk, I was able to negotiate a really good agreement, and one that I am very comfortable with, no hidden clauses.  I've been running holiday classes throughout the summer, as well as coping with the dreaded chicken pox at home.  It's not been easy, but at least I've been able to be there for the girls when they've needed me, as well as meet with new venues to start more classes in September.

Caroline runs Pyjama Drama classes in Earlsfield, Wandworth, and Fulham.  For more details about class times and venues ring: 0844 272 6520 or visit www.pyjamadrama.com
