Top Family Films for 2012

This year, Snow White comes to life and classics like Star Wars and Titanic return in 3D. If the Jubilee and the Olympics send you running from the crowds, we suggest finding solace in the nearest theatre with a bucket of popcorn and your favourite pick ‘n’ mix.  

Here is our round up of the best family films to hit the silver screen this year...

 

January

A Monster in Paris

(U) 27 Jan

Paris, 1910, a monster is terrorizing the citizens, or so they think. A shy movie projectionist called Emile and an inventor called Raoul join forces to save a misunderstood monster, who turns out to be just harmless flea.

The Adventures of Tintin

Journey 2-The Mysterious Island

A mythical island is the location for this thrilling adventure. Sean Anderson and his friends are on a mission to find his grandfather. Join them on this action filled journey.

Hugo 3D

Star Wars 3D

(U) 9 Feb

The 1999 blockbuster returns to theatres this month in 3D. Take your children to watch the first episode of Star Wars. Before Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Darth Vader and the Dark Force there were others. Meet a young Anakin Skywalker, Queen Amidala and Obi-Wan Kenobi and the peaceful world of Naboo where the saga begins.

Kermit, Miss Piggy or Animal? Who is your favourite Muppet? If you don't have one yet this is the perfect opportunity to get to know them. Muppets are reunited with the help of three friends in order to save their old studio from a greedy oil tycoon.

Mirror, mirror on the wall...who is the fairest one of all? The classic fairy tale comes to life this spring with Julia Roberts as the evil Queen to Lilly Collins' Snow White. Prince Charming, the seven dwarfs and a very funny mirror, played by Nathan Lane, also make an appearance in this legendary story.

Manny, Diego and Sid are in the midst of another adventure as their continent is set adrift. Watch them explore the new world, fight of pirates and try to find their way home.  

The Amazing Spider-man

(TBC) 4 Jul

Spider-man, spider-man...Radioactive spider-man returns to the screens this summer. This time played by Andrew Garfield, Peter Parker tries to juggle the responsibilities that come with having great powers and the everyday woes of being in love. Look out! Here comes the spider-man!

Dr Seuss-The Lorax

(TBC) 27 Jul

Oh the lengths a boy will go to impress a crush. Based on the Dr. Seuss book, Ted sets out to find a real tree for the girl of his dreams. In his journey he discovers the story of the Lorax, a grumpy but charming creature fighting to protect his world.

Merida is the daughter of Scottish royalty and an aspiring archer. Her two worlds collide when she recklessly unleashes an unintended peril and is forced to spring into action to set things right.

ParaNorman

(TBC) 14 September

A misunderstood boy who can speak with the dead, takes on ghosts, zombies and moronic grown-ups to save his town from a centuries-old curse.

Finding Nemo 3D

(U) TBC

Nemo is a clown fish living in the Great Barrier separated from his father Marlin, after a boat captures him. Dory is a blue tang fish suffering from short-term memory loss who tries to help Marlin reunite with his son. This underwater adventure is out this month in 3D.

Frankenweenie

(TBC) 5 Oct

Creative Genius, Tim Burton, brings us the heart-warming story of Victor, a young boy who loses his dog Sparky in a tragic accident. This motion animated film follows his journey to bring his best friend back to life through mad scientific experiments. Watch out Frankenstein!

Hotel Transylvania

(TBC) 12 Oct

Dracula operates a high-end resort in Transylvania. When a boy discovers the secret monster hideaway and falls for the count's teen-aged daughter, the old-school vampire goes into protective mode.

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted

(TBC) 19 Oct

Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe and Gloria the Hippo seem never to get their travelling plans right. On their way back to New York from Africa, a "mechanical flaw" lands them in Europe where they have to join a circus in order to make it back to America. 

 

All films are opening at cinemas nationwide. Dates might change through out the year, so we'll keep you posted!
