Who hosts a baby shower?
The person who hosts your baby shower is usually either a close female relative or a female friend. Of course you can break out of this tradition but generally it’s a chance to banish the men and let the women to all get together to share a few insights and home truths about pregnancy and raising children.
Hosting a baby shower
Whether you go for a big production with coordinated baby shower partywear and baby pink and blue icing on the cakes, or you just want to get everyone together for a glass of fizz and some nibbles, you will find no end of inspiration online, where there are several companies offering gift themes and special occasion ideas tailor-made for your baby shower.
It’s important that the host consults with the mother-to-be on who she would like to invite and what kind of party she wants, but beyond that the host should do all the legwork for the expectant mum – circulating gift ideas, selecting a location that isn’t just the mother-to-be’s front room (to spare her the tidying up), and so on.
Baby showers are traditionally a bit of afternoon fun so there is no need to organise a huge party or to create such a fuss that everyone feels nervous and on their best behaviour. Ultimately, what a mother-to-be will really want after a couple of hours’ excitement is a good rest!
